FIVE STAR CLUB SHOW 15th OCT '11

Todays show was a great advert for Amateur boxing in the UK, a cracking card thanks to some superb matchmaking saw no stoppages and just two counts in 17 bouts. A MASSIVE thanks to all the clubs that travelled, especially Gloucester who brought 6 lads, plus lads from Far Cotton, Sudbury, Ted Harris, Kettering, Horsham, Billericay, Attleborough, Tilbury, Debden ,Finchley, Newham and Dagenham (have a safe drive home guys)

Also a great shout out of appreciation to the crowd that came, a "real" boxing crowd, full of respect, knowledge and appreciation of the lads getting into the ring, Not ONE single boo all afternoon, just clapping and cheering.

A lot of the lads are pretty new to the boxing game and EVERYONE should be applauded for how they carried theirselves today, 20 of the boys having had 2 or less bouts leading into today, it really had a "stars of tomorrow" feel about it, although the final bout was an absolute cracker between two top class National champs in Ingram & Murray.

A sold out dinner show with 200+ seated and over 100 standing had a great nights entertainment with some cracking bouts. Many thanks to ALL the clubs that made the journey to make the show possible.
A HUGE thanks to the officials that made it possible also, in no particular order, John Ryder, Jumbo Basi, Chas Coakley, Ted Moughton, Ian Carter, John O'mahoney, Alfie Bowen, Annie Petrea, Mick Lawlor, Dr Sharista, Paul "the guvnor" Claydon and the extremely young and impressive young referree Junior Potts who if the youth of today were all like him the world would be a better place.
Finally a special thank you to Dan O'Sullivan who makes a difficult job look so damn easy, keeps it all running smoothly with an effortless calmness. Also hats off to Tony Kennelly who runs his backside off making the whole thing come together.

A final big thank you to all our corporate sponsors who support us throughout the year with financial backing, it is much appreaciated.

More club shows at the gym are planned for next season so our next dinner show will be in May 2012,

Many thanks to all the clubs that attended that help make it a great night. Some great bouts with my favourite by far the Taylor v Taylor bout that could have gone either way, confirmed by the confusion when the result was announced Laughing
Lovely to see so many Councillors and Mayors in attendance and once we tally things up the various charities should benefit handsomely.

Also a word of thanks to ALL the officials that made the night possible, super Dan O'Sullivan who makes running the night so much easier, Paul Claydon (let's hope the Hammers can get 3pts today) Jumbo Basi for reffing all 10 bouts with extreme efficiency, Ian Carter, John Burling, Gerry Channing, John o'Mahoney, Annie Petrea and anyone else I have forgotten.

That's about it, also a final word of thanks to the crowd that paid on the night to watch and behaved impeccably and helped make the atmosphere.

Our next Dinner show is on May 6th

Another Five Star London Champion

A busy weekend saw Five Star ABC of Gooshays Drive, Harold Hill represented at 3 different boxing shows in the area. First up on Friday night was senior boxer Eddie Kelly on the Romford ABC show at Dukes Hall against Edward Bradbury all the way from Bodmin boxing club in Devon. Eddie having his second fight back after a short break stated well and despite a slower second round came out all guns blazing in the third to win by a points decision. A testament to how good Eddie fought was confirmed when his opponent was voted best away boxer by the judges at ringside.

Next up on the Saturday was Billy Beer representing Five Star in the London Final of the national Schoolboys competition. Fighting in the class 2 categories at under 44kg Billy was up against Stowe ABC boxer Jason Ward. Billy began the fight looking very strong and continued at a very fast pace throughout coming through victorious on a unanimous points decision. Billy will face Ferry Street boxer Donny Britton in the next round to be held at the Belus Park ABC gym, South Ockendon on Saturday 6th February. Later that Saturday in Wickford saw the Anglian rounds of the National Association of Clubs for Young People (NACYP's) where Five Star had 6 representatives. In the first bout of the day Alfie Brown-Sykes went out in a close contest against Mark Samuel of New Astley boxing club whilst Jack Murray from Five Star was victorious in his bout against Southend boxer George Davis. Harry Brown-Sykes, Brad Jefferson, Tyler McCarthy and Simon O'Driscoll all received byes to the next round.

A good show, weigh in 12.30-2.30, boxing started 3.pm, 21 bouts every thing done and dusted by 8.30, so everyone home early Thanks to all the ABA officials, Paul Clayton (Claydon) ,OIC, Chas Coakley ref top man,Tony Kennelly Refereeing after having to send home for his whites with only 15 minutes notice Barry done exceptionally well getting 21 bouts to stand up with the flu all over the place, great matching with Five Star losing 8 bouts by very close majorities . It was good to see Eddie Kelly back in the ring after being out for 2 years. Thought T.McCarthy, Charlie Bennett, and Joe Kellerher who gave nearly a year in age and 2 kilos all deserved the nod against very good opponents , but hey thats boxing, would all make great returns. And last but not least "THE MAN" Mr Dan O'Sullivan MC ,great job as usual Dan, but then again we don't expect anything less from you . Thanks to all the clubs who attended, but not the one that did not turn up at all .wont be dealing with them again . Also like to thank the ladies of Five Star who do a great job preparing and serving the boxers food and looking after the ABA officials, thanks ladies

Alma Show - 10th October
Five Star's single representative at the Alma show, the ultra consistant Lee Markham was very impressive in his victory over Moulescombe boxer Nicky Jenman. Jenman in his 99th Amateur fight was no match for Lee over 3x3minute rounds, with Lee winning by a wide unanimous points margin.
